Software development culture in India
Today I will tell you about India’s software development culture. India is a country with one of the largest populations on earth. In the past, it was known for its rich culture and heritage. Nowadays, it is also known for its booming technology industry.
India’s software development culture with companies like Wipro, Infosys, TCS, and HCL Technologies being some of the most notable players has been influenced by both Western and Eastern cultures. It has been influenced by Western culture in terms of programming languages and technologies used in development. On the other hand, India’s software development culture has been influenced by Eastern culture as well as Indian culture in terms of values like discipline and hard work that are deeply rooted in Indian society.
The Indian culture is unique in its own way and this can be seen in their work culture as well. In an article on the Best of India blog, it was mentioned that startups in India grew by 25% every year and they were helped by a healthy angel investment environment.
As an example, Hike Messenger has raised over $1 billion to date including investments from Tencent Holdings Ltd., Tiger Global Management LLC, and Baidu Inc. It also mentions how there are a lot of incentives for entrepreneurs like tax exemptions for investment in startups which can sometimes be up to 50%.
The Indian software development industry is one of the world’s largest. There are more than 500,000 engineers and programmers in the country. The Indian government has been focusing on developing this sector with a plan to make it a $150 billion industry by 2020.
All major global companies outsource work to India due to its low labor costs, proximity, and cultural connections.
